UNICEF launches cryptocurrency fund

UNICEF Creates a Cryptocurrency Fund
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced the creation of a dedicated Cryptocurrency Fund to receive, hold, and distribute donations in ETH and BTC. This landmark move marks the first time a United Nations organization will use digital assets in this way.
First Contribution & Allocation
The first contribution of 100 ETH (equivalent to approximately $28,000 at the time of receipt) has already been received from the French‑based Ethereum Foundation. These funds will be allocated to finance three grantees and the GIGA initiative, which aims to connect every school in the world to the internet.
Why It Matters
This pioneering decision enables UNICEF not only to accept but also to distribute cryptocurrency directly without first converting it into fiat currency. This approach enhances transparency and increases the efficiency of fund utilization.
