UN begins accepting crypto donations to combat hunger

🔥 A major event has occurred in the charity world: The United Nations World Food Programme USA (WFP USA) now accepts cryptocurrency donations!

The organization has partnered with The Giving Block platform, enabling it to accept over 80 types of digital assets, including popular cryptocurrencies like #Bitcoin (BTC), #Ethereum (ETH), and even #Dogecoin (DOGE).

According to WFP USA representatives, cryptocurrency donations allow faster and more secure fundraising, which is particularly crucial under current conditions as humanitarian resources dwindle while demand for aid continues to grow.

On March 31, the Emergency Hunger Relief Fund was launched, aiming to raise more than $25 million from private donors and companies in the U.S. Funds will be directed toward food assistance projects in over 120 countries.

What advantages do crypto donors have?

  • 🔸 Faster transactions compared to traditional bank transfers.
  • 🔸 Lower fees compared to bank card transactions.
  • 🔸 Ability to avoid capital gains tax and receive tax deductions for the full market value of the asset.

Dorota Amin, WFP USA's Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships, emphasized that the current global crisis demands innovative solutions, and cryptocurrencies have become precisely that kind of tool.

Interestingly, this is not the first successful crypto-driven charitable event. In October 2024, Vitalik Buterin (the creator of #Ethereum) donated a substantial amount of ETH after selling meme coins #MOODENG.

🙌 Indeed, cryptocurrencies are becoming not only a convenient financial tool but also a meaningful way to do good worldwide!
