UN adopts blockchain

In April, the United Nations announced its decision to integrate blockchain technology into its programs to enhance efficiency. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the global nonprofit Blockchain for Good Alliance and the international blockchain innovation center EMURGO Labs.
The program will focus on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Blockchain will be integrated into key social sectors—from establishing transparent supply chains to providing financial support for small-scale farmers. A total of 40 blockchain solutions will be deployed, with open-source code made available to the public.
This move once again demonstrates the effectiveness of Web3 technologies, even for an organization as vast as the UN. It highlights how blockchain’s transparency can help combat corruption in the social sector. Full modernization of legacy systems will take time, as the UN envisions a gradual transition. Nevertheless, this marks a major step forward for the global community, reinforcing the real-world impact of social initiatives.
